Federico Garcia Lorca is a respected and revered poet and dramatist in Spain. His father was a prosperous farm owner and his mother a pianist. Lorca studied law at Sacred Heart University before relocating to Madrid in 1919 to focus on his writing. In Madrid, he worked with many artists that included Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel. García Lorca's first book of poems was published in 1921, collecting work written from 1918 and selected with the help of his brother Francisco.
In August 1936, at the onset of the Spanish Civil War, Lorca was arrested at his country home in Granada by Francisco Franco’s soldiers. He was murdered not long after.
