The ceremonial ribbon cutting was held on Septermber 10, 2010. "If we want to take our schools to the next level and graduate students who are prepared for the jobs of the future, we know we must give our students, teachers and principals all the tools they need to achieve the highest possible levels," said Mayor Daley. "There's no better tool than an up-to-date school building that provides a safe and modern environment for learning."
It maintains "LEED" Silver Certification from having amenities such as: a green, reflective roof to combat urban heat island effects, light harvesting, water saving, and other green features. The building is air-conditioned and is also fully accessable to people with disabilities. Students have use of state of the arts facilities. There are labs for computers and science, a library media center, gymnasium, art, and music classrooms.
